I was given a copy of this book to review. This is the first book of this series and is largely targeted at the teenagers and young adults. It is a passionate love story set in Colorado between Michael and Evelyn on the milieu of high school romance. It is a sugary tale well written and the plot has plenty of tension and excitement with a joyful conclusion. Good read definitely.

Guardians of the Gate Review from Michael Pollack
Ami Blackwelder has delivered a finely crafted fantasy of forbidden love in a contemporary magic realm. Her narrative sails along with a lyrical flow, constantly building-up conflict toward a dramatic and satisfying conclusion. A well-blended amalgam of beloved literary components draws the reader into the story, immersing the reader in the tensions and desires of characters who deserve our sympathy and care

ihearditthroughthegrapevine.wordpress REVIEW
GUARDIANS OF THE GATE:
Romance is not new to Young Adult novels, and paranormal romance has become very big among YA authors since the success of The Twilight series, but an elfin/human romance is something I have never read before. Overall, the writing was fairly good and I think this book is definitely appropriate for the young-adult market. -Lisa K. Mason

Guardians of the Gate Reader Reviews
I really like how you capture Michael's trepidation about asking Evelyn out -the angst, the worry. He is an interesting character. -Diane
This is so romantic! What really won me over though was your prose -you are a poet. I loved Michael's description of first seeing Evelyn. This will totally melt hearts! -Lizzie
