Interview from Night Owl

NTERVIEW with Author Ami Blackwelder by Tamazon

The Hybrids of 2050 | Sci-Fi Paranormal Romance | Eloquent Enraptures Publishing | 978-1456344337 | March 2010
Alaska 2050 - Hybrids caught between two worlds. Shifters on the verge of extinction. Humans divided on either side.
Love and betrayal continue. Set in Alaska 2050, Melissa Marn and Bruce Wilder continue their work for the SCM under the hard, maddening General Raul. With military life now a cat and mouse game between Melissa and the General, the hybrids and the SCM, will she still have room for Bruce in her life? Will she ever see her twins again? After betrayal strikes the General for a second time, is Melissa safe?
Since the annihilation of the shifters, only two elders remain in Anchorage, and an uncertain future awaits the hybrids. Will Diamond overcome her heartache and loss and find a family with Unseen? When a human joins the team, will he prove to be trustworthy? Will Melissa aid the hybrids in their survival or will she deliver the ultimate betrayal?
With underlining themes of how prejudice breaks human connections and animal/wildlife conservation, this novel which has received rave reviews will leave the reader flipping through the pages.
Please tell us your latest news!
I was just picked up by Barnes & Noble at USF to stock my prints regularly on their shelves!
I'm also now available at all Barnes & Nobles and other bookstores, but the reader has to go to the front desk to order the book.
Of course I am also online at Amazon, B&N, Kindle, Nook
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
I really like E.J. Stevens at the moment. I like picking up Indie authors. I did read a lot of Imogen Rose and now I'm onto this new Indie author.
I like that she mixes mystery with paranormal...I think if she continued this series with a Nancy Drew feeling in each novel that would be a great continuing series, with a new mystery each book. But not sure how she is planning it.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I believe writers are born and usually begin writing very early. I myself had very long run on sentences when speaking at a young age and a vivid imagination. I wrote since elementary school.
What main genre do you write in?
Sci-Fi, Paranormal, Historical, Romance
Please describe your writing environment.
I write outside and by the pool and at my desk by the window. I generally like to write alone, but if on the patio table by the main pool with others swimming, I can write too...just so long as others don;t bother me with questions ....lol. I also like a good cup of tea to wake my brain.
What’s been the most challenging part of writing for you?
Promoting. Bah-Hum-Bug
Do you like to mix genres?
Yes. I mix Scifi and Historical. Scifi and Paranormal. I usually always add elements of Romance.
What book are you reading now? What are your thoughts on it?
I'm reading several - She Smells the Dead, Fallen, Mockingjay, and Switched.
E.J. Stevens wrote She Smells the Dead and kinda like a Nancy Drew with a paranormal twist. Original and fresh. Mockingjay is a let down for me...the third in the Hunger Games trilogy. I'm just not as into it anymore. Fallen, about angels. Wanted to try one. I actually thought i'd be more hooked then I am, but it is good. Switched. Loved the first chapter...still reading it.
Do you have any cool promo tricks you can share with other writers?
Promos: I would advise writers to utilize nook and kindle forums and find a few sites related to your genre that are strong sites and that you like yourself and stick with those for promos and blogging. Also try kindle nation...or kindle sponsorships.
Do you have any animals? Do they influence your writing?
Lotus, my Siamese cat, and yes he inspired the first book in Shifter Evolutions saga, The Hunted of 2060.

Blog Tour Stop - Ami Blackwelder

Set in Alaska in 2040, Melissa Marn and Bruce Wilder must work under the iron fist of the SCM, while still trying to maintain humanity. Discovering a world of shifters and hybrids, the scientists must struggle with human prejudice and betrayal. With the original ancestors, dubbed shifters, still living on earth, humans are in the midst of a fifteen year old war. As the eldest hybrids, Unseen and Diamond, learn about humans the hard way, with the loss of loved ones and sacrifices, love on planet earth proves challenging.

With underlining themes of how prejudice breaks human connections and animal/wildlife conservation, this novel which has received rave reviews will leave the reader flipping through the pages.

Reviews:

This is a fast-paced, compelling story that deals with some big themes - parenthood, the treatment of our enemies, the corruption of power, the ethics of scientific research, and intolerance towards those who are different to ourselves. If that sounds like a lot, the story doesn't feel crowded - the themes and questions posed by the book arise naturally from the situations the characters find themselves in. --Helen Smith

From its electric-blue cover and typically free-flowing, "The Shifters of 2040" is paced briskly and easy to read. From the world she created in "2060", Blackwelder again has taken the time to develop her own plausible science (and) fiction incorporating speculation about nano-science and ideas such as "steering wheel ID".  --A Cheshire Lad

Once you start this novel you will not want to put it down, and when you finish you will certainly want more.  --Shawn Weaver

The Hunted of 2060 REVIEWED!

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful read for both your heart and mind, June 26, 2010
This review is from: The Hunted of 2060 (Kindle Edition)
This is the second book of Ami Blackwelder I've read. And I can't help admitting that she is a very talented author with a skillful and captivating narrative writing.

The Hunted of 2060 is a very powerful and engaging read for all ages. The world and characters created in the book are very skillfully described making you sympathize with them, get enraged with them, and at the same time learn with them.

The plot is intriguing enough to keep you turning pages until you reach the final page, and the effect it produces lingers with you long after you've finished reading it making you think about things that are of global importance, reconsider your attitude toward human values such as love, sacrifice, humanity, justice as opposed to meritocracy, brutality and ignorance.

The storyline is so well thought-through that I can't reveal any details to you without spoiling the intended effect from the read. I can only say that I enjoyed every bit of the story and strongly recommend it to everyone from sci-fi lovers to paranormal and fantasy fans.

The Hunted on Time for Mommy.....

2060. 3 lovers. 2 species.1 way to survive.

Set in Alaska in 2060, when April enters her Sophomore year at University, she thought Robert might be the love of her life, but as she discovers, she is hiding something inside her, something the rest of the world believes to have died out. She struggles with who she was and who she is becoming as she learns of a family she never knew existed and of enemies she will have to outrun, outfight or outwit to survive. As April embraces her new identity, will she have to leave the life she loves behind?

My Thoughts - I'm a huge fan of fantasy and the paranormal. I wanted to read this book as soon as I saw the cover, it just called to me and I certainly was not disappointed.

The Hunted of 2060 was very fast paced with beautiful descriptions, action, and a nice romantic story line . Ami made me feel like I was part of the world she created. She did a wonderful job of taking the shifter concept and making it her own. I highly recommend this book for all of my paranormal book reading friends who are looking for something new and fresh to read.

The eZine The Examiner reviews The Hunted of 2060!

Review of The Hunted

by author, Ami Rebecca

Blackwelder

The Hunted 2060 is an awesome sci-fi romantic
thriller about the future. The author takes the
reader on a very exciting trip into a future
society set in Alaska in the year 2060 -
into a future that is not like our own.
The first chapter delivers a cleverly written
description of the main character and the
plight that the protagonist must face.

19-year old college student - April dealt
with the changes that controlled her body
and her urges. Adopted at birth, her true
identity was never told to her until she
had a chance meeting with her siblings
and was told the truth about her past.
She was then introduced into a world
that was unknown yet very familiar to her.
She fought against the beast within her as
she continued to control her body from
changing form as well as her urges
throughout the story. April continued
to attempt to maintain a normal life
while continuing to attend college.

April adjusted to her new reality of
becoming who she was to become -
one of “the hunted.” Half human and
half wolf-like species, April was
introduced to the “clan” and learned
about her family and their supernatural/alien
connection called shifters that can change
into different forms on earth and read
minds of humans.

It was intriguing to learn more about
the future society, the storyline and,
the characters as the story progress
throughout the book. The story was
filled with several twists and turns
that seemed well thought out.

The characters were believable and
interesting. The author took her time
in revealing the plot. I was impressed
with the amount of imagination used to
describe the story line, the characters
and the surroundings. All of the details
of the future society were woven in a
well written manner. Just imagine a
futurist novel with sky cars, hologram
textbooks and robots to name a few
coupled with a supernatural species of
beings with supernatural abilities and
supernatural twists that are very well
put together - with elements of a
sci-fi romance all in one.

I would recommend this book for anyone
who is interested in reading a good sci-fi book.

The Hunted of 2060 Reviewed!

Review by: David Fingerman on Jun. 21, 2010 : star star star star star
At nineteen years young, April is going through changes that even she can't explain. It's not until she meets her twin sister (a sister she never knew existed) that April realizes she is a shifter, humans that can transform into animals, and that are being hunted into extinction. Knowing what she now is, April is torn between Robert, a human, and Arken, a shifter from her clan. While battling her inner feelings, April now has to fight for her life and the lives of her new family against the Rogue Militia, a propaganda producing war machine vowed to extinguish each and every shifter.

Ami Blackwelder takes us fifty years into the future where other than fancier gadgets, the world is still full of hate, ignorance and hope. The story is told in the first person, and I must admit I was rather torn. It made for a much stronger insight and brought out April's feelings, but it also narrowed the focus. Maybe it's a guy thing, but I would've loved to have gotten inside the militia and the inner workings in much more detail. Still, Blackwelder's writing is solid. It's a pleasure to read from an author that writes using all of the senses. She made me feel the cold and taste the blood. The Hunted of 2060 is a quick read. The chase and fight scenes are top-notch and kept me turning pages. She also weaves in the environment, tolerance, and social acceptance without getting preachy. For fast paced action and a temporary escape, this is definitely a book well worth reading.
