Interview with Imogen Rose

  • 1- When did you start writing? What inspired you? I started writing during the summer of 2009. Like most moms, I have been making up stories for my children for years. My younger daughter asked me to write this particular one down. The initial story itself first manifested in a dream, and was probably stimulated by several aspects of my own life. I took those original scenes and embellished it, eventually turning it into my first novel, Portal.

2-What books have you written so far? I have written nine books (Portal, Equilibrium, Quantum, Momentum, Fusion, Faustine, Initiation, Integration, Uprising) and a few of these have also been translated to German, Japanese, French and Spanish.

3-What is your favorite book that you have written? This is a hard one, as I am usually most into the one that I am in the process of writing. However, I think I would have to say, Portal, as that’s the book that started me down this path.

4-Who is your biggest literary influence? I get asked this a lot, and I don’t think I have one.

5-What series' can we expect from you in the future? More of the Bonfire Chronicles and off shoots from this series.

Imogen Rose is the author of the bestselling YA series, the Portal Chronicles. Imogen was born in a small town in Sweden and moved to London in her twenties. After obtaining a PhD in immunology from Imperial College, she moved with her family to New Jersey, where she’s been based for the past ten years.
For as long as she can remember, Imogen has dreamt stories. Stories that continued from night to night, from dream to dream. So, even as a child, going to bed was never an issue, just an anticipation of the story to come.
PORTAL, Imogen’s first novel, would have remained in her imagination, to be shared only with her daughter, Lauren, had her eight-year-old not insisted that she write it down. In the course of a month, Imogen typed while Lauren waited eagerly by the printer for the pages to appear, and a novel took shape.
The warm reception PORTAL received encouraged her to continue with the story and the Portal Chronicles. Diving into her second series, the Bonfire Chronicles, Imogen continues exploring the paranormal YA world.
Imogen is a self-confessed Hermès addict, obsessed with Kurt Cobain and a certain unnamed Irish actor. She enjoys shopping, traveling, watching movies, and playing with her dog, Tallulah.
